“Honoring Mary’s Spirit” In Memory of Mary Schneidman.  This class is being held to honor a beautiful spirit.  Mary, her husband and three children, lived in Katonah for many years. Mary was a teacher, mom, dancer and yogini but most of all a creative and free spirit. Last May, Mary lost her long battle with cancer; she lived life to the fullest to the very end. To keep her light shining , the Katonah Art Center and Theresa Bates,  Mary’s teacher and friend, are offering this gentle yoga practice.  There is no fee for this class, all donations will go to the Integrative Medicine Dept. at Northern Westchester Hospital.  No yoga experience is required; please wear comfortable clothing.  Mary’s goal was to make 1,000 cranes for healing;  her friends and family came close to reaching this goal. To continue the thread of healing we will be folding an Origami crane after our practice for those who want to stay.   Sunday, October 21, 1pm.

Art@Home Ideas from the KAC:

Wax Monoprint, for older kids and adults.   Materials:  Crayons, Warming tray or electric fry pan, Paper, Craft sticks.   Warm tray or fry pan, peel crayons and draw directly onto the hot surface (please use caution). When you are satisfied with your drawing, carefully press a piece of paper onto the pan until wax shows through to the back. Grab a corner and gently peel off. You can do another print if there is enough wax left…in this case, however, it would not be called a monoprint.

Baked Crayon Painting for kids of all ages.  Materials:  Cookie sheet, Cardboard or mat board, Crayons, Craft sticks.   Peel crayons and chop into small pieces. Have your child create a picture on the cardboard or mat-board out of the wax bits. Place the painting on a cookie sheet in a 250-degree oven. Remove from oven when wax melts. Craft sticks can then be used to move, scratch and draw into the wax.
