Volunteers Needed at the Sharing Shelf

Make a difference in a child’s well-being:   Be a volunteer at The Sharing Shelf of Family Services of Westchester.
The Sharing Shelf is seeking volunteers – individuals, groups, families – to help sort and package clothing for children living in economic distress.  The Sharing Shelf, a program of Family Services of Westchester, collects new and gently used clothing, shoes, school supplies and certain infant items, then distributes them to children in-need in Westchester County.   The program partners with more than 20 agencies, schools, hospitals and local governments to distribute over 1,050 outfits to 150 children and youth every month.   This program was founded and is run by volunteers.
Volunteers are needed in our Port Chester warehouse an hour or two each week to help sort and package clothing.  Bring a friend and come work together, or join us and make new friends.  We are open most Saturdays for teens to fulfill community service hours. The Sharing Shelf can also use volunteers less frequently – once a month, once in a while or even as one-time group event, to help sort and package clothing.
Volunteers are also needed from the community to organize clothing drives at local churches, synagogues and schools.  At the moment we are in great need of girls’ size 7; boys’ sizes 5, 8, 12 and 14 (YXL); study shoes, particularly sneakers for all sizes and ages; and shirts in light blue and pants in navy blue in sizes 8 to 14/16.  As the weather changes to cooler temperatures, we need fall and winter clothing such as long-sleeve shirts, sweaters and sweatshirts and fall jackets and winter coats.  We are always in need of NEW socks and NEW underwear.
The Sharing Shelf can work with children and teens to develop a community service project.
