The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze

My personal pictures, please excuse as they are just iphone pics. Just want to give a little "taste" of the event!

This past week I finally took the kids to an event I have been reading about for years — the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze at Van Cortlandt Manor.  It was SO COOL.  I can’t think of more literary words to describe it, I’m sorry, but if you love the fall and Halloween in particular, please go get tickets and see this sight.  There are literally thousands of carved jack o’lanterns (some from pumpkins and other from craft materials) all glowing and sparkling in the dark.  The kids were blown away and the adults had smiles plastered to their faces as well.  There are different scenes and themes as you walk the trail, with a little something for everyone — dinosaurs, cats, spiders, a whole underwater scene, witches, flowers, designs, a zoo panorama…spooky, sweet and everything in between.  The kids couldn’t stop pointing and chattering about what they were seeing and wanted to go back through a second time.  There is a ton to see and it’s super fun for all ages.  A MUST DO in Westchester County!

Below is the description from the site and the ticket and contact info – tickets are still available for October 31, November 3, 4, 9, 10, 11.  Definitely even worth the trip post-Halloween.

See more than 5,000 individually hand-carved, illuminated jack o’ lanterns in this elaborate walk-through experience. Meander through an historic, 18th-century riverside landscape and discover a breathtaking display – all made of jack o’ lanterns!  Stroll through the Tunnel O’ Pumpkin Love and emerge to the incredible sight of gourd-filled Jack-in-the-Box springing up and bouncing around.  Flying pumpkin ghosts will soar above the lantern-lit path.  Could 2012 really be THE END? Consult our Pumpkin Prophesy doomsday grandfather clock for an answer.  See slithering snakes, a giant spider web, an undersea aquarium, and super-sized dinosaurs.  Go gaga over a collection of Little Monsters.  Come gawk and gaze at more jack o’lanterns than ever before.  Complete with sound effects, elaborate synchronized lighting and original, atmospheric music, this not-to-be-missed spectacle is the area’s most innovative Halloween happening.  Advance Tickets Required.  Call 914.366.6900Adults, $18, Children 3-17, $14   (Saturdays $22, $18)FREE for members and children under 3.
