Second Saturday Party. Saturday, August 14, 7:00-9:00 pm. Visit the Museum Sculpture Garden from 7-9pm for an artful evening of cocktails, live music and more. A special component of the party, called E.Y.E On You, has been developed by artist and curator, Marcy B. Freedman to showcase the collaborative art-making process of the group known as E.Y.E and to offer museum visitors a unique experience. Marcy and her fellow E.Y.E artists will invite party guests to pose for 15-minute life-drawing sessions. The resultant sketches will be combined into composite collages that will highlight the diverse styles of the E.Y.E artists and reflect varied aspects of each model. The completed artworks will be available for purchase by the model - or other art aficionados! The evening also includes live music performed by local favorite Jim Coyle, as well as delicious, fresh hors d`oeuvres provided by Myong Private Label Gourmet. Second Saturday is $10 for members and $20 for non-members.
Shades of Jazz featuring John Ellis Group. Wednesday, August 11, 6:30 pm. On his latest album Puppet Mischief, saxophonist John Ellis developed a sound that he hopes is evocative of "carnivals, state fairs, children laughing, clowns and dancing." The New York Times critic Ben Ratcliff wrote, "[Ellis has a] knack for writing catchy, fluid, optimistic songs, but he is also fascinated by the ways musicians can break down structure and create it on the fly." Pre-order your picnic dinner from Wm Nicholas & Co., and it will be ready for you to enjoy at Shades of Jazz. The KMA provides complimentary beer and wine. Plus she will help you look out for other new behaviors around this time that might be related. These might include regression, sleeping problems, increased tantrums and more. It’s an exciting time for both you and your little one (who is not so little any more!) so come to this seminar and help prepare yourself for what’s in store! You are welcome to bring your toddler – we will have some small toys and extra staff available for them to play with during the talk.
