Westchester is expanding on a campaign begun last year to help people qualify for the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and a similar credit from the state. Volunteers would be trained on how to fill out the forms and would be asked to donate time between Feb. 1 and Apr. 15 at one of four designated tax assistance sites.       <description><![CDATA[<STRONG>Volunteers Needed to Deliver Kosher Meals to the Homebound</STRONG>.&nbsp; Volunteers are needed to deliver kosher meals to homebound individuals living in Mount Vernon, New Rochelle and Yonkers. Sponsored by Westchester Jewish Community Services, the Kosher Meal Program operates Monday through Friday from Sinai Free Synagogue in Mount Vernon where the meals are picked up at 11:30 AM and the warming containers are returned daily at about 1:00 PM.&nbsp; Volunteers use their own cars and can travel in two-person teams.&nbsp; Each route encompasses about five deliveries and takes about one and a half hours from start to finish.&nbsp; Volunteers can participate weekly, monthly or on an as-needed basis.&nbsp; Anyone interested can contact Caron Gelles at 668-4350.<BR>

Volunteer Ombudsmen help to resolve complaints, monitor quality of life and preserve the dignity of residents in these facilities. Volunteers complete a 36-hour training to become NYS Certified Ombudsmen. In this free training, experts cover a range of topics including understanding the aging process, regulations, levels of care, and how-to work and negotiate with facility staff for the protection of residents’ rights as prescribed by law. This one day camp is an extension of the children’s bereavement program offered by Hospice Care in Westchester &amp; Putnam, and is offered at no cost to participants. Please help us make a difference for these children. Hospice Care in Westchester &amp; Putnam Caring Circle Children’s Bereavement Program Day Camp. Hospice Care in Westchester &amp; Putnam sponsors biweekly support groups for children ages 3 - 18 and their families who have lost a loved one. Held at sites in Yonkers, Yorktown Heights and New Rochelle, these groups offer children a safe environment to deal with their emotions in a healthy and productive way so they can begin to heal. As an extension of the program, The Caring Circle established an annual day camp where children in the support groups can have a day of fun with their peers who understand what they are feeling and going through.&nbsp; This year marks the 6th year for The Caring Circle Camp. It is scheduled for Saturday, August 14, 2010. Sponsors are needed to cover the cost of the camp.       <description><![CDATA[<STRONG>WJCS Recruiting Part-time Home Visitors For Parent Child Home Program</STRONG>.&nbsp; The WJCS Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP) is currently recruiting part-time visitors, who receive a stipend, for the new program year (October&nbsp;- May).&nbsp; Staff Training will be held in September. This meaningful and exciting work requires a minimum commitment of nine hours per week. Although Home Visitors’ hours are flexible, attendance is required at weekly staff/training meetings held on Wednesday mornings at WJCS, 141 North Central Avenue, Hartsdale. The Parent-Child Home Program serves low-income families in White Plains, Port Chester, New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, Greenburgh and Mt. Vernon. Visitors call on parents and children in their homes for a half hour, twice weekly, beginning when the child is about two years old. Each week, the Home Visitor brings a book or toy and in the comfort of the family’s home, parent, child and home visitor participate in fun and stimulating activities using the book or toy. The Home Visitor models verbal interaction – reading, conversation, and play – designed to develop language and literacy skills Home Visitors need no special educational background but must have a personality suited to home visiting and working with parents and toddler-aged children.
