Levy will explain how stage magicians of the late Victorian era paved the way for the beginnings of movie magic with their special effects. He’ll show us A Trip to the Moon by the extraordinary innovator Georges Méliès, along with other early short films. Levy promises to demonstrate some jaw-dropping magic of his own, too!  Presented in conjunction with the Hudson River Museum, whose exhibition “Gilded Age Magic” will be on view through Sept. 9.  Tickets: $6 (JBFC and Hudson River Museum members), $6.50 (children under 12), $8 (students), $11 (nonmembers).  Jacob Burns Film Center, 405 Manville Road, Pleasantville, NY 10570, www.burnsfilmcenter.org
