LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Westchester, Which Opens Spring 2013, to Announce Start of Registration for “Brick Factor,” a Contest to Find and Hire LEGO Master Model Builder for New Attraction.  Twelve elementary school children to pull two ripcords unleashing a colorful cascade of LEGO® bricks onto Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and other officials, all wearing hardhats and carrying shovels, during the ceremonial groundbreaking for LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Westchester on Wednesday, October 17, 11:30 am (across from Fountain Plaza/adjacent to T.J. Maxx) at Westchester’s Ridge Hill, One Ridge Hill Boulevard, Yonkers.   Following the dumping of the LEGO bricks, the speakers and children will dig into the pile.  The ceremony celebrates the start of construction on the LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester and opens with brief remarks from Mayor Spano, Westchester County Director of Economic Development, Larry Gottlieb, Merlin Entertainments Divisional Director of Midway Developments, James Burleigh and Senior Vice President for Retail Development, Kathy Welch, from Forest City Ratner Companies (FCRC), developer of the Ridge Hill complex.   Burleigh will also announce the start of open registration for “Brick Factor,” a two-day (November 17-18) talent-search contest to find the area’s best LEGO builders to compete for an actual job as the Master Model Builder of LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester.   LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester is a multimillion-dollar, 32,300 square-foot indoor attraction featuring more than 3 million LEGO bricks, geared towards children ages 3-10 and their families.  Its range of interactive attractions will include hands-on play areas, a 4D cinema, master classes led by LEGO Master Model Builders, two LEGO rides, special party rooms and MINILAND — the venue’s signature re-creation of landmark locations and buildings throughout Westchester County and New York City, made entirely out of LEGO bricks.
