Great Chappaqua Bake Sale

TO FIGHT CHILDHOOD HUNGER.  For the third year in a row, dedicated members of the Chappaqua community are coming together to host the 3rd Annual Great Chappaqua Bake Sale to raise money to help feed hungry children.  Named by Share Our Strength as the number two fundraising team in the country, last year’s bake sale raised almost $12,000, nearly double the amount raised the prior year. While this event has proven that even a small community can make a big difference in the fight against childhood hunger, there is much more work to be done.  The 3nd Annual Great Chappaqua Bake Sale supports Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale campaign and its No Kid Hungry initiative to end childhood hunger by 2015.  Share Our Strength is the nation’s leading organization working to make sure no child in America grows up hungry by surrounding them with nutritious foods where they live, learn and play. The Great American Bake Sale is a national effort that encourages Americans to host bake sales to raise funds to end childhood hunger.  WHY:  More than 16 million children in America are at risk of hunger.  According to the Westchester Coalition for the Hungry and the Homeless, 2010 saw a 30% increase in the number of people seeking food and shelter.  Last year more than 5.5 million meals were served in Westchester County in major cities as well as towns like neighboring Mt. Kisco and Yorktown.  According to the Food Bank for Westchester, more than one-third of those served are children under the age of 18.   Hunger impairs children’s health in significant and lasting ways, impedes their ability to learn and perform academically and predisposes them to emotional and behavioral difficulties.  All of the proceeds from the Great Chappaqua Bake Sale will fund programs in New York State that feed hungry children.  WHEN:    Saturday, September 29, 2012 from 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.  Community raffle with amazing prizes generously donated by local businesses.  Children’s corner with guessing jar table and face painting.  WHERE:  1 South Greeley Avenue (next to Chappaqua Framing).
