Soundview Summer STEAM is a place where left and right brains come together for creativity, and fun! STEAM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics. Soundview Summer STEAM is a summer enrichment program which runs for five weeks from June 29-July 31, five days per week with two sessions daily. Kids entering third through sixth grades have the option of attending one or more weeks of their choosing. The City of Peekskill announced that beginning January 10, 2015, the Peekskill Farmers’ Market, sponsored by the Peekskill Business Improvement District (BID), will have an expanded winter season. “The summer and winter farmers’ markets are important Peekskill family events,” said Jason Angell, Executive Director of the BID. The 42nd Annual Art Show: Bedford will take place in St. Matthew’s Fellowship Hall on the weekend of January 23 to 25, 2015. The kick-off Preview Party on Friday, January 23, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., includes a champagne reception, hors d’oeuvres by Happiness Is, and “small plates” donated by Happiness Is and Campagna, with desserts by La Tulipe. On Saturday, Jan. 24, show hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Sunday, Jan. 25, from noon to 4 p.m. The show features a mix of contemporary and traditional art, sculpture and photography. Art Show co-chairs are Laura Blau of Bedford and Laurie Sturz of Pound Ridge. The show’s co-curators are Susan Grissom, Gallery Director at the Lionheart Gallery in Pound Ridge, and Inness Hancock.  One special feature this year is a study of a painting by Stephen Hannock, titled “Northern City Renaissance: Newcastle, England,” which was commissioned by the musician, Sting. This artwork will be displayed throughout the show, and Mr. Hannock is donating 100% of the proceeds from the sale of his study to the Art Show.  Show proceeds benefit local charities supported by the Women of St. Matthew’s. Taconic Outdoor Education Center, Fahnestock Memorial State Park “The Four Season Park”, Sunday, January 11, 2015, 11 am – 3 pm.  Snowshoes will be available for use courtesy of Tubbs Snowshoes and Mountain Top Outfitters.  On a first come, first served basis, participants will have a chance to use a pair of snowshoes for a short period of time.  REI outdoor staff will offer some tips and tricks for winter camping and hiking.  Garrison Fish & Game Club will be ice fishing on Duck Pond. Come join them and learn about this fun way to fish in the winter.  The back hill will be available for tubing, the lake open for skating-bring your own or just “boot” skate.  Beginner instruction on map and compass use will be provided by Orienteering Unlimited. After learning the basic skills, put them to use on a novice orienteering course.  In Highland Lodge, Taconic Outdoor Education Center staff will offer a nature craft activity for kids.  Putnam Highland Audubon will answer winter bird feeding questions and have seed available for sale.
