This summer, share the beauty of your community with a Fresh Air child while enjoying the pure joys of summer in your own backyard! Thousands of volunteer host families in rural, suburban, and small town communities across 13 states from Virginia to Maine and Canada open their hearts and homes to New York City children from low-income communities through The Fresh Air Fund’s Volunteer Host Family program. The Fresh Air Fund, an independent, not-for-profit agency, has provided free summer experiences to more than 1.8 million New York City children from low-income communities since 1877.  Host families open their homes to children who might not otherwise be able to enjoy a summer away from New York City. Fresh Air children experience simple pleasures like running barefoot through the grass, swimming in a cool lake, and gazing at star-filled skies. Through the eyes of Fresh Air children, families often rediscover the beauty of their own communities.  “The Fresh Air Fund is an incredible gift for the whole family. We grow and adapt to learn different perspectives that remind us that the simplest things can make a huge difference,” says Michelle, a Fresh Air host.  For more information on how you can make summer special for a Fresh Air child, contact Heather Stobin at 914-232-6323 or visit The Fresh Air Fund at

The Running Goddess 5K at Lasdon Park – a family trail race on the exquisite arboretum grounds that benefits girls’ education, both local and global.  It was a success last year and we are looking forward to this year’s event, which now includes a kids’ one mile trail race.

Method 10533 of Irvington has introduced the River towns to “the Lagree Fitness Method” — the only workout regimen to have earned two U.S. patents. Every workout will address the five, basic elements of optimal fitness — cardio-respiratory, core stability and balance, endurance, flexibility and strength-building.  It does not add muscular bulk.   Designed for men and women, “the Method” offers a 40-minute, low-impact, yet high-intensity experience. It is especially safe for teenagers as it focuses on core alignment while not overloading joints and connective tissues.  More information —, or (914) 693-6020.

Hundreds of Westchester children — and their mothers — sleep on the floor every night.  This Mother’s Day, honor your mom with a donation to Furniture Sharehouse.  Your gift will help us provide a bed for a struggling mom and her children so they can share a bedtime story and get a good night’s rest.   It costs Furniture Sharehouse $100 to provide a bed to a child, but your donation in any amount will help make sweet dreams!   So this Mother’s Day, honor your mom by putting the Bed in the Bedtime Story for another mom and her child.  Our Goal:  50 Beds for 50 Moms – won’t you help?  Visit

Saturday, May 10th  3:00pm. Meet Tori Corn, author of the new picture book “Dixie Wants an Allergy”.
