Many folks ask me about my advertising packages, how to get a story published, how to get their information out to my list about events, special happenings, their businesses, etc.  I have headed down the path of the non-profit model — I want to continue as a community resource; people love the calendar, they use the resources, they find things on here that help them in their daily lives as parents — but I hate selling ads.  So, I am turning the site over to you all — if you send me posts, stories, events, etc. I will post them, but in order to save my sanity, I need the submissions to come from the community.

Submissions will only be considered if entered by our form here and please READ parameters below.

Your best bets for getting something on are the following submissions:
— Events that are upcoming and open to the public, don’t submit after event/follow up stories
— Short and sweet rules the day — if I have to edit something down, it’s likely not getting another glance
— Ask nicely…and say thank you…I am doing my best to help you get your word out,  and it’s just me here
— Make it easy for me
— Remember I get HUNDREDS of requests a week…and though your idea, business, event, etc is central to you, it is one of hundreds of others

The Westchester All Stars Christmas Concert for Wounded Veterans returns Friday, December 6th at 7:30 pm on the Tarrytown Music Hall stage, 13 Main Street, Tarrytown, New York. The evening presents original holiday music by Westchester County’s greatest musicians. The proceeds from the event will benefit two wounded veterans organizations: The Bob Woodruff Foundation and Veterans Adaptive Sports, Inc. Tax-deductible tickets cost $25, $35 and $50. Blocks of tickets are offered to the veterans, staff and volunteers from the Castle Point and Montrose Campus of the Veterans Affairs Hudson Valley Health Care System.  The Bob Woodruff Organization’s mission is to ensure injured veterans and their families are thriving long after they return home. December 1st from 12:00 – 2:00pm at the JCCA Pleasantville Cottage School.   The Cottage School gives a home to underprivileged kids who have been abused and need a safe place to call home.   As you can imagine when the holidays roll around it can be sad for many of these kids not being with any family. This year we would love to help put a smile on the faces on some of these boys and girls. So we decided to throw a Chanukah party!  It will be a great afternoon and a wonderful way for your family to celebrate Chanukah. Furniture Sharehouse, Westchester’s Furniture Bank, is launching its “Sittin’ Round the Table” Project this holiday season to draw attention to the importance of basic furniture in the lives of Westchester’s families in need. “There’s nothing that says home like gathering around the table for a holiday meal,” says executive director and founder Kate Bialo. “But it’s easier to give thanks around the table when you have a table — something so many of us take for granted.”  The organization hopes to raise enough money to furnish 25 Westchester families in need this holiday season.  “It costs us about $300 to Furnish a Family by giving them the basic furniture they need to make a fresh start,” said Bialo.  “We think that if friends and neighbors in Westchester know that there are families in their midst who are living in empty apartments, they’ll pull together to help.”  Since opening six years ago, Furniture Sharehouse has provided over 36,000 items of furniture free of charge to more than 7,000 Westchester residents moving out of homeless shelters, escaping domestic violence and recovering from personal and natural disasters to help rebuild their lives.  Clients are referred by member social service agencies to ensure that the furniture goes only to those who need it the most.  To make a monetary contribution and for details on how to donate your gently-used furniture, visit and while you’re there, click the link on the home page to hear The Original Blind Boys of Alabama sing about how the families you help will feel when they are “Sittin’ Round the Table” for the holidays.

Every year the Open Door Foundation collects toys for children from families of less fortunate means to make sure that every child in our community will receive a new toy during the holiday season. Santa Claus visits all five Open Door sites to personally deliver the gifts to the children. In order to fill his sleigh with enough toys, Open Door is accepting donations of new toys, valued between $10-$20, through December 10th for children ages newborn to 14 years-old. With a goal of collecting 2,500 new, unwrapped toys, Open Door is accepting donations at all Open Door Family Medical Centers Sites:  Mt.
